President Goodluck Jonathan this
morning officially unveiled the new N100 commemorative notes at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The short ceremony, initially
scheduled for last Wednesday was postponed till today because of the
President’s journey to Burkina Faso.
Central Bank Governor, Godwin
Emefiele joined the president and VP, Namadi Sambo to unveil the note during
the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
The CBN governor said the note was
to commemorate the 100 years of the nation’s amalgamation, adding that nations
like Morocco, Russia and Costa Rica were some of the countries that had issued
currencies to commemorate important events.
He said the design of the note
combines features such as security, durability, attractiveness, cultural
heritage and transformation.
President Jonathan commended the CBN
for coming up with the note, even though he said it was coming a bit late.
