University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, is now set to handle
cases of the dreaded Ebola virus as the hospital has taken delivery of
preventive equipment.
The Chief Medical Director of the
hospital, Dr. Thomas Agan disclosed this in Calabar.
Dr. Agan said the acquisition with
the acquisition of the equipment; UCTH was now equipped to better manage any
possible incident of Ebola.
He further said the management of
the hospital was organizing series of workshops to educate staff of the
Teaching Hospital on ways to avoid contracting the virus. He commended the federal government
for declaring an emergency on Ebola, adding that government’s action has
greatly helped in combating the spread of Ebola.
A renowned medical practitioner,
Prof. Victor Inem, also commended the federal government for taking urgent
steps to combat the spread of the killer virus. Prof. Inem, however, advised
Nigerians to always adopt preventive measures while dealing with Ebola patients
and avoid contact with fluids of victims and animals believed to carry the
virus. “Even when Ebola patients are treated, there are still possibilities of
contacting the disease again through contact with body fluids of infected
persons or animals”.
