NEC directs Inspector General of Police to dismantle road blocks



The National Economic Council NEC, has directed the Acting Inspector General of Police to dismantle nationwide all road blocks mounted by non-revenue officials to collect taxes.
Addressing state House Correspondents at the end of the meeting Thursday, the governor of Anambra state, Mr Willy Obiano said the practice of using non-revenue officials for tax collections was contrary to section 2 of the taxes and levies Act.
The National Economic Council comprises of Governors of the 36 states of the federation and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; the Solicitor General of the Federation, minister of finance, National planning, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chief Economic Adviser to the President while the Vice President is the chairman of the body.
According to the Anambra state governor, council agreed that all states revenue boards should be empowered to automate their tax operations for effective, process accountability and reduce leakages.
